Spencer Macdonald is national secretary with the BECTU Sector of Prospect, and has overall responsibility for the union’s members in film and independent production, the majority of whom are freelancers. Spencer’s experience of the trade union exceeds 30 years.  Most of Spencer’s work is concentrated on delivering new employment arrangements for freelance workers and he is currently involved in a number of initiatives/campaigns for improving pay and terms and conditions on major motion pictures and independent TV drama. He also holds a CILEx Professional Diploma in contract and employment law. BECTU campaigns for the rights of freelance workers in the creative sector, lobbies hard to challenge exploitation and works to secure better pay and conditions for what is widely regarded as one of the best creative production talent bases in the world.
